Recently my girlfriend, tired of doing all of the housework, complained to her husband that it seemed like he would just let her do everything in the house if she tried to do it all. Her question to her husband went like this: "You would just sit there and let me do everything in the house, wouldn’t you?" He said, "Wouldn’t everybody?" He was surprised that she would ask a question with such an obvious answer. She was shocked at his answer. Women do it all for everybody and put themselves last.

Men sit around and let the girls do as much as they will. Only when a man has finally had enough whining and nagging and guilt tripping will he pitch in and help: by then, his loving wife or partner is furious, angry, hurt, resentful and in tears. It has been this way since the caveman days. Today more men are willing to help at home as women have better careers and earn more money. The majority of the labor, and decisions about the home, however, still fall on her shoulders.

It is not surprising that women today are tired of getting a raw deal in marriage and so initiate divorces much more often than men.

Women can be empowered by the idea that they have the right to ask for more help from a man in today’s society. Girls no longer have to be totally drained into despair, tired of doing it all. Men can be empowered with the knowledge that bringing more to the partnership table in terms of helping with housework and shouldering day to day burdens will bring them a more joyful partner and a happier wife than their friends have.
